today marked a day in German history that regularly serves as the basis for neo-Nazi, racist, and anti-semitic protests, speeches and illustration. Today, as every year neo-Nazi groups and movements in Germany staged a protest in Dresden, Germany, to commemorate what they called the "Holocaust from the Sky" (the bombardment of German cities during World War II) in order to relativize the atrocities of the Nazi regime and its collaborators. However this protest today was confronted by over 10,000 brave people that formed a human chain around this racists and anti-semitic gathering, to unite against racism. Such action must be an inspiration for all citizens of this free world. It is time to stand up and speak up against racism, anti-semitism, and discrimination everywhere and every-time we encounter it. May it be at university or in a night club, in the newspaper or the soccer stadium, everywhere!
Today, too, marked the day of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics... May this gathering of so different and yet so similar people provide yet another inspiration to all of us that while we may compete with other people and even nations, may this competition be in friendship, fairness, and brotherly love.
My Rwandan friends, do you feel and sort of racism in daily life? How does the government handle racist remarks or actions in Rwanda?
Stand Up.... Speak Up!
Micha
P.S.: I just love the Winter Olympics. My favorite discipline is Biathlon. Especially the relay
